Saundra was born in Beirut, Lebanon by Egyptian parents. She came to the United States with her family at the age of 5 and grew up in Southern California. Saundra's dancing career began in 1982 studying ballet, jazz and tap. For 11 more years she continued her training in classical dance, while performing and teaching in Southern California. Attending the University of California Santa Barbara (UCSB), Saundra reconnected with her roots and began her study of Middle Eastern Dance under the direction of Alexandra King and the UCSB Middle Eastern Music Ensemble.
Having grown up around Middle Eastern music and dance, familiar with the culture and traditions, Saundra was thrilled to have the opportunity to begin her intensive training of Middle Eastern dance. After a few years of training, Saundra became a principal dancer with the UCSB Middle East Dance Ensemble, Seher. As a dancer in the company Saundra was expected to be technically proficient and knowledgeable of cultural aspects of the dances performed. Seher's repertoire included both classical and folk dances from North Africa, the Mediterranean, Middle East proper and Central Asia. During her appointment with the company she assisted running the company and teaching classes. A 6 year member of Seher and the UCSB Middle East Ensemble, Saundra blossomed as a soloist and performer.
Saundra has danced throughout California, and overseas in Spain, London, and Canada. Currently living in San Luis Obispo, Saundra teaches and performs regularly. She is co-director of SaJa Middle Eastern Dance Troupe, and teaches beginning through advanced classes at Cal Poly State University and at independent locations in San Luis Obispo County. Saundra continues her study of Middle Eastern Dance through her travels domestically and overseas. Saundra is also studying West African Dance and is part of the The Higher Movement Drum and Dance Ensemble in San Luis Obispo County. Arabic music is in her soul and with her diverse background, Saundra dances with feeling, energy, skill, talent and sincerity.
