SaJa
is a Belly Dance/Middle Eastern Dance Troupe that performs dances
to traditional rhythms, and melodies from throughout the Mediterranean
and Middle East. With SaJa you will see the diverse and abundant
styles of Middle Eastern Dance, often accompanied by live drumming.
From American Cabaret, Classical Arabic, Egyptian folk and pop
and Turkish gypsy, SaJa brings this long standing tradition
of Social Celebration to communities everywhere.
Based out of San Luis Obispo CA, SaJa’s goal is to educate,
entertain, and share traditional styles of “Belly”
Dance with the community through performance. SaJa performs
at a variety of community and music festivals, elementary and
high schools, weddings and other banquets. Co-directed by Saundra
Sarrouf and Jenna Mitchell with all dancers contributing time,
energy, and ideas, SaJa can be hired as a group or based on
number of dancers.
Troupe
members of SaJa have extensive dance and performance training.

Saundra
Sarrouf is co director of SaJa, and has been
dancing for over 20 years, beginning at a young age. Saundra
belly dances regularly throughout California and the Central
Coast as a soloist and with SaJa. Please peruse through
this website for more information on classes, performances
and history. |

Jenna
Mitchell, co-director of SaJa and co-owner of
the World Rhythm and Motion Studio, has performed and
studied Middle Eastern Dance for many years in the U.S.
and Egypt. Jenna performs regularly as a soloist and with
the SaJa Middle Eastern Dance Co throughout California.
Jenna has excelled in Modern Egyptian Style of Dance.
She has been teaching Belly Dance Classes for several
years and is excellent at communicating the art of the
dance. |

Lesley
Andrews-Wise began her belly dance career in
1990 after an extensive background in dance including
ballet, modern, and tap. She has trained and preformed
with Sadia Camille but also has learned from other bellydance
greats including Delilah, Eva, Carolena Nerricio, Suhaila
Salimpour, and Dina. Lesley has preformed the last twelve
years throughout the central coast at various festivals,
nightclubs, and currently performs monthly at the Oasis
Restaurant in San Luis Obispo and with SaJa. |

Shannon
Allegra Wyndsong began her study of Middle Eastern
dance in 1998, urged by a friend and fell in love with
it ever since. Shannon has trained with Dalia Carella,
Morocco, Layla Haddad and Sadia in belly dance and trained
with Suhail, Karim Nagy, and George Lammam, in Tablas,
Zilling and Persian Singing. Currently living on the Central
Coast of California, Shannon has danced at local restaurants
and for the last five years with SaJa at many festivals
and events. Shannon is very interested in the thoughtful
fusion of diverse styles of dance, and the power of dance
as a vehicle of expression and personal interpretation
of music. |

Cherie
Hovey has been a member of SaJa since 2003. Cherie
first started belly dancing in Hawaii in 1998, falling
in love with the music and art of the dance. She has performed
for a variety of audiences and in Hawaii and California
and continues to study belly dance on the Central Coast.
